도구 소개

The phone number locator allows you to quickly find the geographical area that a phone or cell phone number originates from. Locations are identified by matching the area code (NPA) and prefix (NXX) of a phone number to a latitude/longitude coordinate. This tool currently supports most phone numbers within the United States. Queries are confidential and are recorded for abuse prevention and statistical purposes only.

유선전화 번호는 설치한 장소에 묶여 있어서 위치가 보통 도시 단위까지 정확합니다. 휴대폰 번호는 그 번호가 처음 개통된 지역에 묶여 있는데, 지금 휴대폰이 있는 곳과 반드시 같지는 않습니다. 나라 반대편으로 이사한 뒤에도 쓰던 번호를 그대로 유지한 사람은 예전 지역번호를 계속 들고 다니는 셈입니다.

이 도구는 번호가 어디에 등록되어 있는지를 찾아 줄 뿐, 단말기가 지금 어디에 있는지는 알 수 없습니다. 휴대폰을 실시간으로 추적하려면 그 휴대폰을 쓰는 사람 본인의 동의를 받아 통신사나 위치 공유 앱을 이용해야 하며, 번호만으로 그렇게 할 수 있는 조회 도구는 없습니다.
