About YouGetSignal

YouGetSignal is a collection of network tools that began in late September of 2007. The name is a fun play on a line of broken English from the infamous All your base are belong to us cut scene.

It started as my effort to learn the latest web technologies. Over the next 17 years it grew into a free utility used by more than 30 million people across every corner of the Internet, from network engineers debugging port forwarding to FBI agents tracking cybercriminals.

The original goal was to contribute a set of useful tools to the global Internet community. That is still the goal.

Now, in 2026, YouGetSignal has been rebuilt from the ground up. Same free tools, same URLs you have known for years, modernized for today’s web. The PHP, curved border divs, Prototype.js, and Google Maps v2 integration have been retired with respect.

Behind the scenes, the tools now run on the same infrastructure that powers connected.app, a more comprehensive network monitoring and intelligence platform. YouGetSignal was created by me, Kirk Ouimet. I find it remarkable that we have such easy access to tools that allow us to send information around the globe in less than a second! As a web developer, I feel fortunate to benefit from the work of the tens of thousands of engineers and programmers who have created the technology that I use every day.
